In the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America you must have a Master's Degree to even be considered for the priesthood. And the pay scale is public. Also, St Nick’s a Toronto church where the cost of living is higher than other places and only pays their priests between $45-50K per year and takes all their tips not just from funerals and other sacraments like marriage and baptisms but even from the basket that goes to the priest with names for Divine Liturgy that are addressed to the priest to pray those names. Let me say this again, a lay person: Merkel/Archon Evangelos takes money out of the basket which is for the priest for the proskomidi for Holy Communion. Has anyone ever heard of such insanity?! And the former priest, Fr Apostolos had a signed contract from the Archbishop himself that said he'd be paid just over $60K, but when he came to Canada Merkel told him $50K. And that was the end of that. Plus she took all his tips. Let's not forget how Bishop Iakovos threatened his life and his family and then kicked him out of St Nicks at midnight after screaming and swearing at him and his wife for quite some time. Yes, there were witnesses who heard the call that was on speaker phone. Fr Evangelos who is there now is paid even less. And his mother-in-law put a $50 bill (which are red bills) in the basket with names for her son-in-law to see what would happen. Guess what? There was no $50 when it got to the altar to Fr Evangelos. Must have been a magic trick. This is your Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Canada run into the ground by Archbishop Sotirios and his minions. Where stealing even during Divine Liturgy is a regular thing. Where threatening clergy and their families' lives is just another day. Where bags of cash worth $50K plus a month disappears from St Nicks and ends up in the office of the Archbishop and then vanishes into thin air. No idea why the churches are empty? Oh and fun fact: Bishop Iakovos has been in Greece for weeks now. He was just in Greece all summer and he will be there this summer again. How many months exactly of paid vacation does this Bishop get per year? He's been gone up to 4 months in a single year. And who's giving him all this money to live it up in Greece for so many months a year? You can only steal so much from your Philoptochos so where is the rest of the money coming from? A priest with a young family gets paid only $45-$50K a year in Toronto with zero tips but Bishop Iakovos gets to jet set to Greece for months a year? Really? Why are only Archbishop Sotirios’ people being financially taken care of?

  2. I had the pleasure of attending a wedding presided over by Fr. Apostolo. Sotirios misjudged this true man of god. GCT’s gain Arcdiocease’s loss.

  3. Fr. Apostolos, in my humble opinion is one of the nicest fluently bilingual humble and god fearing priests in Ontario. He most certainly did not deserve to be mistreated by the generals at St Nick’s. Ms Skoutakis made a brilliant choice by deciding to take him on at St Irene. I can guarantee you that she and the church council will not touch one penny of what rightfully belongs to him.

As for the vacationing Bishop let him be. The longer he is away doing what he does best, the better.

Isn’t it ironic that God does indeed exist and that he takes care of the righteous?

  5. Fr Evan and his family desperately want out of St Nicholas church. Then what? Who is Sotirios going to force to go there? No one wants to go because of Tasia and her son Archon Evangelos. It's a revolving door there with no end in sight. Fr Evan and his family were loved at Agia Triada and are at St Nicholas. His entire family has stepped up to try to help the church. But there's only so much they can do when they're being bossed around by Tasia and Archon Evangelos.

I'd love to see someone like Fr Theo go in there, he's arguably the only priest in Canada that would remove Merkel and change the locks on her and not care what Sotirios has to say. And why Sotirios would never put him there. If only we had more Fr Theo’s who are willing to do what's right despite the blowback. No wonder Skoutakis wants him so badly for St John’s.

  6. Does anybody know which if any degrees all the archdiocese priests and bishops have?

    It should proudly be posted.

    1. Fr Theo has a Masters of Theology.

When Fr Fanourios came to Canada he told the Archbishop he had a PhD of Theology and applied to the University of Toronto to become a professor and the university discovered he didn’t even have a Masters degree, and of course didn’t hire him. No idea what he has, if any.

Fr Evangelos is still in school at the Academy just like the priest in Kingston. The one in Markham barely got his undergraduate degree at the Academy.

Fr Apostolos has a Bachelors. But there’s something going on with him though because Sotirios told him to teach Byzantine music at the Academy (his area of knowledge) but you can’t teach in Ontario unless you have a Masters Degree so Salmas is listed as the Byzantine music teacher at the Academy even though he’s not.

And Bishop Iakovos has a Masters and teaches at the Academy but didn’t follow Ontario guidelines for class work and couldn’t be bothered to hold an exam for the students but I don’t think anyone found out about it. It’s been a while so I can’t remember how they covered that up.

      Archbishop Sotirios has a Masters.

      Bishop Athengaoras has a Masters.

Fr Peter’s has a doctorate (not sure if it’s technically a PhD though because I can’t remember where he did it at. And of course has a Masters then.)

Fr Spiros who was transferred to Quebec has degrees but none in Theology and apparently refused to go to the Academy.

Fr Chris at the monastery has financial degrees but from my understanding none in Theology. (He’s only parti-time since he has a day job and is also a volunteer priest since he will not accept money from the church)

Fr Ted has a Masters but there’s some sort of scandal around the person from Winnipeg who is still paying for his degrees (still doing another degree) and in exchange for what. Fr Ted has paid for zero of his education and still has a sugar daddy in Winnipeg.

Fr Thomas went to the academy so undergraduate.I think I’m missing someone else from the Academy?

I believe Fr Triandaphilos has at least an undergraduate.

In America every single priest must have completed a Masters degree before Ordination to the priesthood (or is almost finished their degree so like in the final semester they might make someone a priest if needed). I suspect when Canada was broken off from America Sotirios could do whatever he wanted to, but don’t know for sure maybe someone else might?

The Ecumenical Patriarchate has a policy for Bishops that they must have a Masters degree (something to do with theology) to be considered.

That’s all I got for today.

  7. The gct was is just as bad. They have been stealing and swindling since inception. Thats why they have zero assets and all debt. Are we to believe that millions didn't disappear at the failed community center? And why did the gct vote down for forensic audits and police investigations?

    1. Since you are talking about stealing and swindling, talk about baby Alexander collected $190k. and only gave less than $1500. This is all public information. What about the bedside wills Sotirios is a specialist in and the weekly cash skimming from Merkle and her archon son at st Nicholas. CRA is looking into all of this and then some.

  9. At least the GCT publicly posts its financials. Same cannot be said of the Archdioceses. No funds disappeared at the GCT Ellesmere centre, massive mistakes were made the archbishop’s senior director John Dagonas wrote the report which confirmed that maybe you should tell your boss to get the facts straight. What happened to the Kingston camp that the HHF paid for?
    The truth hurts doesn’t it?

    1. The Ontario metamorphosis camp that HHF paid for was sold in the fall at the start of the pandemic with no consultation and not informing HHF. The Archbishop did it with the stroke of a pen. He sold it for not much over what was paid for it since that was the worst time to sell. But the bigger question is if the Archdiocese has millions according to the Archbishop why did he need to sell the camp? And why was it done in secrecy? Why was there no Archdiocesan Council meeting. Why wasn’t HHF at the very least informed? Those who run the camp found out after the fact. And then on top of it the Archbishop tried to get the board of the camp to give him the money they have in an account separate from the Archdiocese. They did not since it’s designated for Ontario camp and not for him. Why did the Archbishop so desperately need $2M? Where did that money go? Did it go to Turkey?

    2. Kingston property is still owned by the Archdiocese. It’s the metamorphosis camp grounds Arch quietly sold during pandemic with another property in Peterborough which had a lake. For both he didn’t get much money, low twos. For someone who says he’s business savvy that was not one of those moments.

  11. You know perfectly well there are ways to steal that are “legal”. Morally and ethically wrong but not criminal. Thats why CAs exist.

  12. Talk is cheap my Archdiocese minions. There are absolutely no ways to steal that are legal. Last time I looked theft is theft. If there was proof I’m quite sure your boss would have reported the GCT to the authorities because morality and ethics have never been your bosses strong point. If you are so sure of yourself and the misinformation you spread you would have put you name after your comment. Since you are not go tell these lies to your boss who likes to hear and read them.
