Λάβαμε και δημοσιεύουμε ένα ενδιαφέρον σχόλιο του π. προέδρου και ταμία της πάλαι ποτέ Ελληνικής Κοινότητας Τορόντο, το οποίο αναφαίρεται, μεταξύ άλλων, στα σχόλιά του και τους ανώνυμους σχολιαστές τους.
Γράφει, λοιπόν τα εξής:

It has been brought to my attention that certain individuals and institutions have taken offence to my postings on your, according to them, “amateurish” blog.
Unlike anonymous writers to your blog, I proudly sign
everything that I write.
According to subsection 2(b) of the Canadian Charter
of Rights: Everyone has the following fundamental freedoms:
1. freedom of thought,
2. belief,
3. opinion and expression,
4. including freedom of the press and
5. other media of communication.
Article 14 of the Greek Constitution provides the same
rights
As a citizen of the two of the greatest countries of
the world I hold these rights near and dear to my heart.
My eldest child happens to be a third-generation board
member of the Greek Community of Toronto and has volunteered together with his
sister every year since the age of 11.
In the spirit of transparency, (which is generally in
short supply) I no longer represent any Hellenic based organization in any
capacity.
I take the personal attacks against me with a grain of
salt and on occasion childishly respond to them to the embarrassment of those
that really matter to me.
In conclusion,
If people are offended by my comments I personally
could care less.

DeleteThey’re just jealous of you Nikona. They wish they could be you. Also, Sotirios has his staff read Andipothas to him and gets them to respond. They clearly have too much time on their hands. I know I speak on behalf of many when I say, thanks for reporting Sotirios and those around him for us who don’t know how to report those sort of things to government.
ReplyDeleteI do need to Express my respect for Nikona because he is on of the few that respects the freedom of expression to the point that he’s putting his name at the end of every comment regardless if people agree with him or not. It takes a lot of courage to Express his opinion which in many cases might be different than his own son who happens to be on the Board of Directors. Constructive criticism is what makes our community a better place because different opinions build a more productive community. I have to agree that this blog should bring a bigger variety of subjects that the community is interested in and do not concentrate only on sOtyrios unethical practices .. Leon
ReplyDeleteThe blogger is entitled to cover any and all subjects that he feels his readers are interested in. It’s his right. If anyone feels they want something else let them set up their open blog and cover the subjects that are of interest to them. Easier said than done. Over the years there have been numerous bloggers with various levels of success. Antipodas 22 is still around. Like him or hate him you all come back for more.

Ολα καλά μας τα λες κ. Νίκων, αλλά για το κατέβασμα της κοινότητας στα υπόγεια για να γιορτάσουμε τις 28 οκτωμβρίου δεν λετς τίποτε. Και είστε συνένοχοι αφού αυτό παραδόσατε στη φιλόπτωχο, όταν φύγατε. Τι να κάνουν και αυτές. Αλλά τώρα με τους νέους Συμβούλους που μπίκαν μέσα στο συμβούλιο κάτι θα γίνει!!
ReplyDeleteΚενότητα παρέδωσαν στον Σωτήρη, ο Καραντώνης με τον Αρτεμάκη (ο Νίκωνας με τον Ερμή ΔΕΝ ψήφισαν τη συμφωνία-έκτρωμα), Κενότητα παρέδωσε στις Φιλοφτωχήνες του ο ...πνευματικός τους παΤΕΡΑΣ, πού ήθελες να την βάλουν, στον Άμβωνα; Στο υπόγειο την τοποθέτησαν, όπου είναι, τελικά, η θέση της... Όπως εσύ άβαλες φαρδιά πλατιά το όνομά σου, παραλίγο και τη διεύθυνσή σου, πρέπει και ο Νίκωνα να μας πει ακριβώς ποιό είναι το όνομά του και πώς ακριβώς γράφεται. The National Philoptocos as far as I know is under the control of the Archdiocese which as far as I can see has not lost its charitable status.
DeleteThe Gct’s now Philoptochos Pronia is a department of the GCT which has not had its charitable status revoked.
According to the Archdiocese and it’s bylaws all churches must have a Philoptochos which directly reports to the Archdiocese which only discloses the minimum required by CRA in its annual filings. The GCT releases annually its audited statements.

6:59 AM the Philoptochos told me they are not allowed to issue tax receipts if you give them money because they no longer have the ability to. And this is from a Sotirios church who recently told me. I asked another Sotirios church and the Philoptochos said the same thing that they can no longer issue tax receipts. Do you know what’s going on?
DeleteLet me be clear there are only two(2) Philoptochos that are registered with CRA as charities and able to legally issue tax receipts , they are:

2.Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Ladies Philoptochos Society-Laval
Since the Philoptochos according to you "is from a Sotirios (more politically correct like it or not, an Archdiocese) owned church" it never had the legal right
to issue its own tax receipts.
The Church which most likely is the registered charity only has that right. This is a very serious allegation you are making about what might have been done in the past.

9:50 it was our own Philoptochos who told us this. So I tried myself to give $25 cash which would make me elgible for a tax receipt and they said they can't issue a tax receipt and when I asked can the church issue it, they said no because it's separate from the Philoptohos. I checked with 2 other churches that are Archdiocese churches and they said the same thing. 2 of them pro-actively said the Philoptochos lost their ability to issue tax receipts.
Delete12:44 am The church was more likely than not allowing its donation receipts to be issued by Philoptochos using their charity number. This may have been an administrative position that the Archdiocese arbitrarily took. When I seldomly give to the Philoptochos of a non-gct church I always assumed like everybody else that those funds went to the church and not a separate entity.
DeleteBe an informed donor give to the actual charity which can issue a receipt and get up to half of it back from the government.

Σωτήριος, μεγάλη αποστολή από την Κοινότητα του Μόντρεαλ από τον πρόεδρο, όλοι οι πολιτικοί του Κεμπέκ, επώνυμοι κι ανώνυμοι. Εκτός από την Ελληνική Κοινότητα του Τορόντο.
