1 in 10 Torontonians now using food bank amid 'skyrocketing' costs, stagnate wages: A food bank in Ontario is turning away international students looking for free food. ‘Unacceptable’: Report finds 10% of Torontonians accessed a food bank this year
Mr Antipodas I do not see you or any of the organizations you write about discussing the above very serious problem.
Based on the above news between 7,500 and 9,000 residents of Ontario of Hellenic decent are starving. These are our parents, children and grandparents who most likely due to their Greek pride would never let us know they are starving.
The bigger story is around 1.5 million human beings in Ontario are starving!
In my opinion this is unacceptable for a country which places 13th out of 167 countries on the prosperity index.
What is our church which prides itself on letting us know they have assets in the hundreds of millions doing about this?
What are our and every other Greek Community/Association/Club etc in Toronto and the rest of Ontario doing about this?
1. Doing fundraisers to build or maintain existing dinosaurs
2. Sending money to third world nations when Charity starts at home
Who is at fault? The list is too long .
The list of what our people or organizations are doing about this is too large BUT the answer is the same.
NOT MUCH!!!

I have a wonderful idea all the Canadian parishes of the Greek orthodox church instead of sending their 7% of all their fundraising to the archbishop in Toronto for six months they should send 7% of all their fundraising to their local food banks
ReplyDeleteΜα, αγαπητέ κύριε, αν γίνει αυτό τότε θα πεινάσουν όλες οι εκκλησίες και όλοι οι κληρικοί που τις υπηρετούν και τσίμα-τσίμα τα φέρνουν βόλτα για να κρατηθούν ανοιχτοί οι ιεροί ναοί! Αν γίνει αυτό το πράμα πώς θα κρατηθεί σε λειτουργεία η ιερατική σχολή από την οποία αποφοιτούν τόσοι παπάδες για να καλύψουν τις ανάγκες των ενοριών; Πέρα που ο Σωτήριος θα βρεθεί χωρίς τα απαραίτητα χρειαζούμενα, αφού επί πολλά χρόνια τώρα δεν εισπράτει κανένα μισθό. Μη λες τέτοια λόγια λοιπόν γιατί θα έχουμε άλλα προβλήματα. Οι φτωχοί θα τα καταφέρουν κουτσά στραβά και χωρίς τη βοήθεια των εκκλησιών.
Delete3:20 pm : It is15% to a maximum of $40,000 per parish and 7% from the Philoptochos/Pronia . Good luck getting the Archdiocese to forego a penny of that. If they do they will order every priest to forward the funds directly to the Archdiocese so it can skim from the top just like it did with Baby Alexander. Don't worry though that ashiest Nikona will make sure that not happen again .

Δεν καταλαβένω μερικοί τι ενοείτε; Και περισότερο το Νίκονα! Του Σωτήριου και της εκκλησίας δεν είναι όλες αυτές οι κοπέλες που οργανώνουν και μαζεύουν ρούχα και τρόφημα για τους φτωχούς η οποίοι πεινούν ως επί το πολύ τις άγιες ημέρες των χριστουγένων και του πάσχα; Τι παραπάνω να κάνει η Αρχιεπισκοπή και ο Σωτήριος ώστε να πούμε μια καλή κουβέντα; Δεν μπορούμε να τα δώσουμε και όλα και να μείνουν οι παπάδες χωρίς αξιοπρεπή οικονομική ζωή; Πού να φτάσει το μηνιάτικό τους που νομίζω ότι δεν είναι παραπάνω από 10-15 χιλιάδες;
ReplyDelete10:03 what is there to understand? This is NOT a “Sotirios” vs GCT vs Church vs Priests vs Pronia little money issue. It is a lot bigger than that. PEOPLE ARE STARVING!! Yes if we all put our minds and efforts towards addressing this life and death issue we can help end this sooner rather than later.

Sorry to break it to you but Archbishop Sotirios and the National Philoptochos could care less about feeding those in need. They both just collect money and it’s not actually spent on those in need. The National Philoptochos Society of Canada is not a registered charitable organization which is why no one is permitted to issue tax receipts for your donations. That should tell you everything you need to know.
ReplyDeleteThe good thing is you can make donations directly to food banks so you know where your donations are going.
That is exactly one of many reasons why CRA is reviewing the Archdiocese αnd its sham/ Sotirios piggy bank called philoptochos.
