Ο πρόεδρος του Ελληνικού Σπιτιού κ. Γιάννης Φαναράς, όπως κάθε χρόνο έτσι και φέτος, συμμετέχει στην εκδήλωση «ΜΑΡΑΘΩΝΙΟΣ» που διοργανώνει η Scotiabank και όλες οι προσφορές που θα συγκεντρώσει θα πάνε στο ταμείο του Ιδρύματος για τις ανάγκες του οι οποίες εφέτος είναι πολύ περισσότερες λόγω της πανδημίας του Κορωνοϊού, και αφού ΔΕΝ πραγματοποιήθηκε ουδεμία από τις άλλες προγραμματισμένες ετήσιες εκδηλώσεις του Ε. Σ. Για το λίγο αυτό προσκαλεί και παρακαλεί τους ομογενείς, φίλους και μέλη του ιδρύματος, να βοηθήσουν, όπως ο καθένας μπορεί, την προσπάθεια αυτή της συγκέντρωσης χρημάτων για τις ανάγκες του. Στη συνέχεια δημοσιεύουμε την προσωπική επιστολή του με την οποία ζητάει την συμπαράστασή σας για την επιτυχία της προσπάθειάς του αυτής.!

Dear Friends This year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon will be a virtual race and it will take place from October 1st to 31st. I will complete my actual run on Saturday October 24, 2020 and I will visit the Race Roster to input my time. I am participating again this year in support of the Hellenic Home for the Aged. This is my 10th run and with the continued support of friends like you, I have managed to raise $140,000 over the previous 9 years. I would like to make a special appeal to you this year in my efforts to support me once more. We are raising funds to build a new Nursing Home with 128 beds in the empty lot that is adjacent to the existing Scarborough Facility. We are also planning to expand the Toronto (Winona) facility from 81 to 102 beds. We are trying to do all of this in the middle of a pandemic when all of our fundraising activities (like the Golf tournament, Gala, and walkathon) have been cancelled. At the same time, our waiting lists have grown to over 500 people looking for accommodation in one of our facilities. I am very passionate about the Hellenic Home. My immediate family members have stayed at both the Toronto and Scarborough facilities. The Home provided them with the opportunity to live the last few years of their lives with dignity, compassion, and respect. If you have, or had, family members residing in one of the two facilities, you will appreciate the work that our dedicated staff are doing. It is not by chance that we are rated by the Ministry of Health as one of the top nursing homes in Ontario. It gives me great pleasure to visit the residents. I see their smiles when they greet me, and I know that they are well taken care of in an environment that respects and enhances the Greek heritage and Greek Orthodox faith. This is what gives me the inspiration and the drive to financially support the Home’s mission, to raise funds for it, to get involved, and to deal with the ever-changing needs of our residents.
